Recommendable: Double Cord Technique A good reproduction of the preparation limit is achieved by use of braided retraction cords (e.g. Ultrapaf, Ultradent Products/USA). Good and reproducible impressions are achieved with the double cord technique. With this technique, an initial thin cord is applied in the sulcus. It remains there throughout the impression taking process. A second thicker cord is placed over the first, it is removes shortly before the impression is taken. The first cord is blocked bleeding from the sulcus. At the same time, it prevents the gingiva being folded back onto the preparation limit. Individualized Impression Tray With the one-step putty wash technique, the use of lab-manufactored individualized trays - or at least the customization of a tray (Rimlock tray) - are recommended, along with a distas dam made of light-curing plastic or thermoplastic material. Impression Material
The impression can be taken with all impression materials used in fixed prosthetics (hydrocolloid, polysiloxanes, polyethers). Both, the one-step and two-step putty wash techniques can be used with polysiloxanes. Only the one-step putty wash techniques can be used with polyether materials. Tip
With both the one step and the two-step putty wash techniques, we recommend to spread the impression material in the air stream after application of the low-viscosity component. This garantees a good wetting of the surface. |
